Animation and banners

Ultimately and sadly - this page is better viewed on Chrome - even though I love Safari. Additionally I haven’t used dynamic code for the video so mobile view will be a bit out, but Im assuming if anyone is looking at this they will be using a desktop anyway.

This type of work probably represents the most recent work outside of the full-time Ive been doing. Five years with the Flash to to more recent with HTML5. There is a huge amount of it - way too much to show here. Some of it, Iv'e had the comment, well it doesn’t seem like very much? Some of the banners, whilst they may look very simple, were built to be served in other languages and required knowledge about the platforms they worked on like Sizmek and Flashtalking. What looks like a few banners for a particular campaign is actually hundreds.

The work represents both design and coding again - some of the banners are Flash based with Actionscript and some are HTML5 that replaced it.

The videos thats Iv’e posted below ( as some are Flash which is defunct now ) are sometimes large file sizes - 30Mb. Don’t expect it to load like YouTube videos - they are HD MP4, so give it a bit of time depending on connection - but they do allow you to see how the thing operated. I could of course write them as HTML5 but - I don’t have the time.

Alphabet

This was a flash banner done years ago, maybe 2007 for a recruiting company, and to which unfortunately I dont have the video. What it does illustrate is that age of technology was no barrier to very good design and animation - all the letters rotated about and scrolled along the lines that can be seen. I think it looked good and the animation worked really well. Its just such a shame that you cant see these things in their original state.

BFG

About 2016, this was an interesting job as we had to animate the giants head in time with various bits of video on one format and on others the animated bits were hands. Again made in Flash with video overlayed.

Colony

This was a great job to work on although quite hard work - circa 2016. The client requested a promotional banner for the DVD release of the film. It was built entirely in Flash using Actionscipt. There is a a fold out page takeover thing that shows a section of clips from the film, and there is a snow effect overlay with the video as well.

Finish dragon

This was a series of banners in 2015 that was advertising a dishwasher tablet. The ads used programatic smoke to generate the effect. Again flash based, so here a video. Image shows the various sizes that were required.

Gaviscon

This was a massive series of banners that were done in many sizes and many different languages with lots of variations of the artwork. Here the basic concept was the play off between instant and long lasting and images rotated around illustrating this. All Flash based.

Girl On The Train

This was a series of banners in 2015 that was advertising a dishwasher tablet. The ads used programatic smoke to generate the effect. Again flash based, so here a video.

Insidious

This was another foldout / takeover banner, so when you clicked on the audio I think, the banner would fold out to a larger size and you’d get audio etc, as you can see in the video. There was a little bit of animation on the side of it as well.

Sonic

This was a massive series of banners for a Sonic The Hedgehog game. HTML5 this time. The image shows the various graphics within the banner. Circa 2017

Marvel Super Heros

000000

HTML5 video ad for Lego Super heros. HTML5. Circa 2019

Visa

Quite an old Flash series of banners that were in principal the same as the above Gaviscon banners in concept except these used a lot more animation - the figures were running and walking. Circa 2010
